Operating — edited Aug 30, 2026 by Unknown editor

This is the first recorded version, so every line is shown as added. Note: Imported from content/wiki

+ Operating is the part of amateur radio that no exam can teach you. The conventions below are not
+ laws — most of them are voluntary agreements that keep incompatible signals out of each other's
+ way and make crowded bands usable.
+
+ Start with [band plans](/wiki/operating/band-plans) to know where to go — including the
+ contest-free [WARC bands](/wiki/operating/warc-bands) — then pick an activity:
+ local [repeaters](/wiki/operating/repeaters) and [nets](/wiki/operating/nets),
+ worldwide [HF](/wiki/operating/hf-operating), weak-signal
+ [digital modes](/wiki/operating/digital-modes), or portable operating in
+ [parks and on summits](/wiki/operating/parks-and-summits).
+
+ Whatever you choose, [software](/wiki/operating/software) does most of the work these days — the
+ platform pages there cover Windows, macOS, Linux and BSD, Android and iOS.
