The **National Amateur Radio Alliance (NARA)** is a national membership organization for amateur

radio operators and clubs in the United States. It publishes this wiki.
+

## What NARA does
+
+
- **Club support.** A national [club directory](https://usnara.org/find-a-club), grouped into state
+
and regional **club councils**, with promotional material, presenters and program help for member
+
clubs. Councils generally follow the district boundaries a state's own emergency management or
+
public safety agency already uses, so a club council lines up with the agencies clubs work
+
alongside.

- **Representation.** State, territory and regional representatives, plus advocacy with the FCC on
+
matters affecting the amateur service.

- **Education and outreach.** [whatishamradio.com](https://whatishamradio.com) for people who have
+
never heard of the hobby, this wiki for people already in it, and licensing and exam information
+
for everyone in between.

- **Programs and awards.** [Club Week](https://usnara.org/programs/club-week), the National

## Structure
+

NARA is run by a national board of officers, with **regional representatives** covering the ten FEMA
+
regions, **state and territory representatives**, and **council representatives** for each club
+
council. Representatives are the people who keep the club directory accurate — a listing nobody has
+
touched in three years is flagged for its representative to review.
+

## Membership
+

Individual and club memberships fund the work: the wiki and websites, the member portal, outreach
+
material, and program costs. Members get a portal account, a membership certificate, and a vote.

Applying for an award or listing your club does **not** require membership — those are open to the
+
